Australian entrepreneurs and academics took part in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on 23 May 2018. The initiative for the SPIEF day zero event came from the Roscongress Foundation’s Australian partners the Australia–Russia Dialogue (ARD)and the Australian Davos Connection (ADC) Forum.
At the Russia–Australia business breakfast jointly hosted with the ARD, participants discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, natural resources, agriculture, the economy, science and technology, education, and culture.
Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, notes that an established dialogue between the business communities of Russia and Australia will contribute to the development of the economic ties. “Regular Russian-Australian business meetings indicate a strong mutual interest. Such contacts allow us to find points of mutual interest, identify priority areas of interaction and build close business relationships, implement joint projects and attract new partners.”
Business communication will continue with the visit of the Russian business delegation to Australia in June 2018 for the Australian Leadership Retreat, the annual meeting of ADC Forum. Russian entrepreneurs will take part in the Australia Leadership Retreat, along with business headliners and officials from Australia and a number of other countries including within the Asia-Pacific region.
“We welcome the chance to develop the relationship with Roscongress which we began last year. Australia’s economy is open and efficient. We are in our 27th year of continuous economic growth. We have transformed from a resources-based to a diversified economy, and I am pleased that ADC and Roscongress are collaborating to share some of these insights at this year’s Forum and develop business-to-business links,” said Anton Roux, Chief Executive Officer of the ADC Forum.
To recap, at SPIEF 2017 the Roscongress Foundation with the support of the Russian Embassy in Australia and Australian Embassy in Russia entered into an agreement with the Australia Russia Dialogue (ARD) with the objective to promote interaction between Russian and Australian businesses. Cooperation Agreement between the Roscongress Foundation and the ADC Forum was signed in September 2017 at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.
